The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) welcomed more than 6,600 athletes and team officials from 71 Commonwealth nations and territories to the Gold Coast and event cities Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville to share in the celebration of sport, entertainment and culture.

GC2018 is the biggest sporting event staged in Australia this decade. It featured the largest integrated sports program in Commonwealth Games history, comprising 18 sports and seven para-sports.

Splashdown Queensland (Splashdown) was contracted to supply the toilets, showers, and the water and waste water overlay plumbing infrastructure for the GC2018 competition venues and Commonwealth Games Village. This also involved the management and coordination of waste water collection and its disposal, and water quality management.

One highlight of the services supplied was the vacuum toilet system which offers significant sustainable and environmental advantages including large scale water savings, and consequently the reduced amount of waste water collection and disposal that is required.

GOLDOC is the first Games organising committee in history to commit to such a modern and sustainable sanitation solution, and we are extremely pleased with the results.

Splashdown’s experience and technical advice were invaluable during the planning and design stages of sanitation areas, significantly increasing the level of amenity for Games patrons.

Splashdown proved to be flexible and was on time with key milestones including meeting handovers under challenging timeframes, and attaining the high levels of compliance that the event required.

During the competition period Splashdown provided a superior level of service. The staff were conscientious and responsive in dealing with the few minor and to be expected issues that arose, thus enhancing visitor satisfaction.

Splashdown’s competence and innovation resulted in the significant environmental benefits relating to water use minimisation being realised for the event and the Gold Coast. I would like to congratulate Splashdown on the professional and innovative way that it performed its services for GOLDOC at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. Well done!
